Puerto Morelos is located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. With less than 10.000 inhabitants it is considered the gateway to the Mayan Riviera.

It´s a town with beaches with white fine sand and crystalline, quiet waters, bordered by the second largest reef barrier in the world, and protected by the National Marine Park. Here you can snorkel and learn more about the flora and fauna or scuba dive in around the shipwreck called Juan Escutia. The symbol of Puerto Morelos is an old, leaning lighthouse that was affected by powerful Hurricane Beula in 1967.

You must plan to visit the Central Plaza with its picturesque restaurants offering all types of cuisine, boutiques, arts and craft shops, the fishermen´s wharf, the quaint church, and many other attractive sites. But if you want to know more about the Mayan culture visiting YAAX CHE or the Mayan Jungle Sanctuary is a must. The Mayan legend says that from the center of the Earth a great tree called YAAX CHE; its trunk and branches support the sky and its roots penetrate the underworld, joining three cosmic levels of the Mayan universe: CAAB, CAAN AND XIBALBA.
